If you’ve made an error in your curtain length, don’t despair! Adding extra fabric can make curtains longer. The key to making this stylish fix is selecting a fabric that complements the original material. A contrasting texture can work well, too. Just be sure that the new fabric is similar in weight to the original. Once you’ve added extra fabric, you can hang them on your windows with a simple hem or mounting hardware adjustment.
You can add additional fabric to a short curtain by measuring the length to the floor. Then, fold the extra fabric to the bottom of the curtain panel. Add one inch to the measurement. If the fabric is too long, the fabric may fray, which will make them look shorter. You can also use a sewing machine to redo the seams. Once you’ve done this, sew a straight line of stitches along the fabric’s edge.
Don’t cut them too short. You may be tempted to buy new drapes with the appropriate length, but this will end up costing about $900. A better option is to hang bands on the panels instead of trimming them. This way, you’ll keep your curtains from being too short and still be able to hang them properly. And don’t forget to consider the type of use you’ll have for them. You’ll save money in the long run!
