How to Install Curtains Over Blinds
When installing curtains over blinds, the first step is to measure the window recess. Leave a good amount of space in the recess for the curtains, and be sure to check for hidden pipes. Use a spirit level to mark the exact location of each bracket and the width of the window. Unroll the blind and measure its length and width. Mark the distance of the curtain from the top of the blinds to the floor. If you have command hooks, you can cut the tube of the curtain at this point. You should always mark the ceiling and the wall to avoid any mishaps.
When hanging curtains, make sure the material you’re using is strong enough to support the weight of the curtains. You can purchase rod pocket curtains that fit in an upside-down U-shaped casing. Attach them to the blinds using command hooks. Be sure to use adhesive on the back of the hooks. If you don’t have command hooks, consider purchasing command hooks instead. They’ll work with a variety of blind styles and colors.
When hanging curtains over blinds, you can make them longer than the windows. To do this, measure the length of the window and extend the curtain rod. Remember that if you’re hanging curtains over blinds, you’ll need to use a different curtain rod, so you can match the length of the rod with the measurements of the windows. In this way, you can hang two sets of curtains, one on each side of the window.
